Our Lynton LUMINA®️ machine uses laser light, releasing a short pulse of light to destroy fungus in the nail. Light is absorbed by the water in the skin underneath and around the nail, creating heat. This heat helps to destroy the dermatophytes and eliminate the infection. The entire nail bed and nail matrix is treated this way.

The number of treatments required varies, although typically 3-6 treatments are needed for optimum results. These results become apparent as the nail grows out, although due to the slow rate of toenail growth, it may take several months for the results to be seen.
Most people are suitable for treatment, although we always recommend a consultation to ascertain if the treatment is right for you.
We ask patients to attend their appointment free from nail polish, gel or acrylic. Hands or feet should be clean and dry. If treating the feet, it is advisable to bring a clean pair of socks to wear after treatment.
During a consultation, your treatment goals and expectations will be discussed, the nails requiring treatment will be assessed and a treatment plan will be completed by one of our practitioners. You will be asked to fill in a medical history form before signing consent documents and pre-treatment photographs will be taken. Nails will be cleaned with alcohol prior to treatment commencement. The lasers will then be passed over the affected nails. Once complete, detailed aftercare advice will be given with regard to hygiene and additional measures for laundering socks and disinfecting shoes.
Laser treatments have a high success rate in most patients who have been confirmed to have a fungal infection. This must be confirmed by your GP. We cannot guarantee it will not return as fungal infections can still live in the body, even if they don’t present in the nails at that time. Medical conditions such as diabetes, and those causing the immune system to be low can affect treatment.
